AI Improving Small Business

The Future of AI Reasoning and Small Business

In a recent article, Scott Rosenberg of Axios highlighted significant strides being made by OpenAI toward achieving human-level reasoning in artificial intelligence (AI). According to reports from Bloomberg and Reuters, OpenAI researchers believe they are close to developing AI capable of human-level “reasoning,” a milestone that could transform AI capabilities and applications. Now, before you get too anxious about “Skynet” taking over let’s understand where we are right now.

OpenAI has outlined five levels of artificial general intelligence (AGI) as part of its ambitious roadmap:

  1. Chatbots: AI with conversational language capabilities.
  2. Reasoners: AI capable of human-level problem-solving.
  3. Agents: Systems that can take autonomous actions.
  4. Innovators: AI that can aid in invention.
  5. Organizations: AI that can perform the work of entire organizations.

At a recent company meeting, OpenAI leaders indicated that their systems are currently at level 1 (Chatbots) but are on the verge of achieving level 2 (Reasoners). This leap would enable AI to perform tasks requiring human-level problem-solving, planning, and multi-step reasoning.

Reuters reported on OpenAI’s project “Strawberry,” which aims to develop AI capable of human-level reasoning, independent problem-solving, and deep research. This project reflects OpenAI’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities.

The Bigger Picture

Despite the optimism, there remains a debate among AI experts about whether current large language models (LLMs) can evolve into AGI. Optimists believe that with more data, advanced training techniques, and improved error correction, LLMs can achieve AGI. Skeptics, however, argue that the approach might fail to make the necessary leap to human-level reasoning due to limitations in resources and data.

But, let’s face it. While these are important issues to address by the AI industry, they really don’t affect how you can effectively implement AI to your company’s benefit.

How Insight Driven Business (IDB) Can Help Small Businesses Leverage This Development

As OpenAI and other leading AI companies advance towards human-level reasoning, the potential applications for small businesses are immense. There are techniques that IDB uses today to conduct multi-step reasoning in our AI CoPilots. In fact, it’s one of the significant differences between our AI CoPilots and chatbots. And we are refining these techniques every day to benefit small businesses. Let me give you a few examples:
